AKRON -- The Akron-Westfield girls sped past Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Friday in a 55-22 win at home.
The Westerners thundered out to a 12-4 first quarter lead and widened the gap even farther with a 22-point second quarter, holding the Eagles to seven points.
At halftime, A-W led 34-11.
The Westerners came out of the break without missing a beat, scoring 12 points in the third quarter and keeping MMC at four. Going into the final stanza, A-W led 46-15.
They held on to their led in the final quarter, scoring nine points to the Eagles' seven to seal the win.
Two Westerners were in double figures for scoring. Junior Sarah Schroeder scored 14 points for the night and junior Jordan Hansen added 10 points. A-W juniors Jacynda Banks and Kayla Tindall added nine points each.
Tindall and senior Haley Coyle led in rebounds with eight each, and junior Dana Hedlund made six steals and five assists for the night.
With the win Friday, Akron-Westfield's record improved to 2-5 overall.
