HINTON -- The Blackhawks jumped out to a powerful 21-10 lead in the first quarter against Spalding Catholic Tuesday and never looked back.
Hinton won the War Eagle Conference game 75-52.
The Blackhawks put in another 17 points before halftime, holding the Spartans to 13 in the second quarter.
Halftime score was 38-23, Hinton.
The second half was more of the same for the Blackhawks. They scored 18 points in the third quarter to Spalding's 12, making the third quarter score 56-35.
Hinton added 19 points before the final buzzer for the win.
Hinton's Jake Hasselquist and Spalding's Michael Grady and Jared Steffes each scored 17 points for the night, leading scoring.
Hasselquist, a junior, went 8-for-15 on field goals plus 1-of-2 from the charity stripe.
For the Blackhawks, senior Jason Vander Kooi and sophomore Logan Jurgensmeier were also in double digits with 12 points each. Seniors Marcus Turman and Austin Anfinson contributed another eight points each for Hinton.
Overall, the Blackhawks shot 48 percent for field goals and 31 percent for threes. They also went 54 percent from the free throw line.
Hasselquist led Hinton in rebounds with 10. Blackhawk seniors Drew Schiltz and Vander Kooi added another five each.
Vander Kooi made eight assists and two blocks, while Hasselquist grabbed five steals from the Spartans.
Hinton's record moves to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in the conference.
Spalding Catholic drops to 2-1 overall and 0-1 for conference games.
