Cloette M. Schroeder, 78, of Le Mars, died surrounded by her family Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Cloette was born Feb. 5, 1934, at Le Mars, the daughter of Henry and Mildred (Nilles) Harpenau. Cloette was raised on the Harpenau farm north of Remsen. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1952.

On Jan. 31, 1956, she married Darrel Schroeder. The couple made their home on a farm near Le Mars. She was dedicated to her husband for 56 years.

Over the years she did various jobs including, telephone operator, worked at Remsen Apparel, Sacred Heart Hospital. She also volunteered at the Plymouth County Fair.

Cloette was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church of Oyens, and church guild. She was a past 4-H leader.

She loved going to grandkids ballgames, going out to eat, traveling, square dancing, quilting, sewing, gardening, scrapbooking and making graduation quilts. She was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also very proud of her grand champion jewelry tree.

Survivors include her husband Darrel, of Le Mars; five children, Tony (Shirley) Schroeder, Marge (Ken) Hansen, Lori (Del) Kellen, all of Le Mars, Rose (Kevin) Weiss, of Vermillion, S.D., and Anita (Russ) Hopp of George; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence (Veronica) Harpenau, Jim (Mary) Harpenau, Rich (Pauline) Harpenau, all of Remsen; three sisters, Rosemary (Denis) Schilmoeller, of Granville, Ann (Larry) Galles, of Remsen, Carol Harpenau, of Omaha; one brother-in-law, Ervin Ahlers, of Remsen; three brothers-in-law, Lyle (Phyllis) Schroeder, of Remsen, Mark (Jeanette) Schroeder, of Le Mars, Bill (Janys) Schroeder, of Kingsley; three sisters-in-law, Lou (Jim) Gergeni, of Le Mars, Doris (Bob) Gengler and Betty (Dick) Homan, both of Remsen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Sharon in infancy; one granddaughter, Emily Schroeder; two sisters, Jeanette in infancy and JoAnn Ahlers; one brother, Paul Harpenau; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Schroeder as a young child and Marge Schroeder; one brother-in-law, Clarence (Florence) Schroeder.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. Tuesday. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

Casketbearers will be Andy, Ryan and Nick Schroeder, Jenny Kayser, Justin and Derek Kellen, Zach Weiss, Ethan Hopp.
