Phyllis Angeline Sanow was born Feb. 27, 1927, in Peru, Ill., the daughter of Henry and Hilarie (Freking) Schwartz. She attended the St. Joseph Catholic School in Le Mars.
On June 3, 1947, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Sanow at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars.
She was a nurse's aide, physical therapy aide, and unit secretary at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
She was a member at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars.
Phyllis and her husband Lawrence enjoyed camping with their family and in their later years, spent many weekends at their favorite Iowa parks. Phyllis was an excellent embroiderer and also enjoyed painting nature scenes.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son Paul Sanow, of Silver City, N.M.; daughter, Vidette Sanow of Le Mars; son, Stephen Sanow, of Portland, Ore.; son, Clayton Sanow, of Le Mars; daughter-in-law, Jodi Sanow, of Owasso, Okla.; brother, Leon Schwartz, of Spanaway, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and former daughter-in-law Laurie Holan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence on Aug. 12, 2005; son, Gregory on May 9, 2012; brother, Wayne Schwartz and infant twin sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Paul Eisele will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a rosary service at 4 p.m. and a scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Friday.
