Nancy Jo Kunkel, 78, of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Le Mars, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 in Colorado.

Nancy Jo Zimmer was born March 1, 1934 to Joseph John and Rachel Arlene (Pote) Zimmer.

Nancy graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1952. She continued her education at St Joseph/Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City on a full scholarship, graduating in June 1955 as an RN, receiving her diploma in nursing.

Nancy was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Milo Kunkel on June 16, 1956 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. She and Milo farmed for several years in the Moville area before moving to Colorado Springs in 1961.

Nancy continued her education in Colorado, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1986. She had worked as a Registered Nurse for 41 years. After she retired from nursing, she worked for a number of years at Target in the food court.

Nancy enjoyed going camping with The Good Sam Club. Nancy was also very active with Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Colorado Springs; where she enjoyed Bible study class, working in the church office and counting the weekly offertory.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Rachel Lund and her husband Eric, of Firestone, Colo.; a daughter, Mary Kunkel, and a son, John Kunkel, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren: Joshua, Alyssa and Jason Kunkel; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and Godchildren.

Nancy was preceded in death by husband, Milo, on July 27, 2008; her parents Joseph John and Rachel Arlene (Pote) Zimmer; and a grandson, Mason Alexander Kunkel.

A Scriptural Prayer Service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12 at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars with Msgr. Mark Duchaine officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be Monday from noon until service time.

Pallbearers will be Gene Zimmer, Tyronne Greaves, Joe Kunkel, DJ Kunkel, John Kunkel and Joshua Kunkel.

Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.
