Another LCS senior from the cross country team, Yashila Permeswaran, was also invited to run but was unable to attend due to a high school musical performance.
ANKENY -- Although their senior cross country season is now over, two Le Mars Community High School racers laced up their running shoes for one more meet Saturday.

LCHS seniors Marissa Marek and MicKie Theisen participated in the invitational 2012 Iowa Track and Field Coaches Association's Senior All-Star Cross Country Meet.

Marek placed 35th out of 79 girls, running the 3.1-mile course in 20:34.

Mickie was 56th with a finish time of 21:23.

"It was a great way for these two great runners to cap their career," LCHS cross country coach Adam Moss said.

The meet is held annually the weekend after the state high school cross country meet and is hosted at the Des Moines Area Community College campus in Ankeny.

Racers from across the state are divided into four teams, based on whether they are from the northwest, southwest, northeast or southeast portion of Iowa.

The LCHS runners were part of the Northwest Iowa team, which placed third.

The Northeast Iowa team won the 2012 meet.

Participation in the Senior All-Star Cross Country Meet is by invitation only.

To be invited to race, participants must be a senior and have run high school cross country races under a certain time limit in the past year. They must also be in good standing with their high school

For girls, they must have run a high school 4K, which is about 2.5 miles, in under 17 minutes.

From Le Mars, Marek and Theisen, as well as LCHS senior Yashila Permeswaran, were invited to compete. Permeswaran was unable to compete in Saturday's race because she was involved in the production of "The Sound of Music" at LCHS that evening.
