Tentinger's yearling heifers will eventually find their way into his milking herd. All offspring from the herd, including bull calves to become part of the family's beef cattle operation, are retained within Tentinger's farm operation. He explained the Ayrshire breed originated in "the county of Ayr in Scotland prior to 1800" and was at that time viewed as a "show cow" breed. Owned "early in the century" by wealthy residents of the eastern United States including the Scott family responsible for Scott Towels, the breed has continued to gain prominence for its milk production in the last 10-15 years.(Sentinel photo by Jolene Stevens)
