Wall, Schiltz place in top third at state race

A pair of Plymouth County senior runners finished their seasons with a strong showing at the Iowa Class 1A Boys State Cross Country Championships Saturday.

Garrett Wall, of Akron-Westfield, and Drew Schiltz, of Hinton, completed the race within seconds of each other at Fort Dodge.

Wall claimed 35th place with a time of 17:23, nearly 20 seconds faster than his run at the state qualifying meet.

Schiltz finished close with Wall, crossing the line at 17:32 on the Fort Dodge course Saturday for 42nd place.

Earlier, Schiltz and Wall placed fifth and sixth, respectively, at the state qualifying meet in Holstein.

In Iowa high school cross country, boys run a 5,000-meter race, which is about 3.1 miles.
