Mary Jane Weidauer, 89, of Merrill, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Countryside Nursing Home in Sioux City.
Mary Jane Zimmerman was born Aug. 16, 1923, on the family farm southeast of Merrill, the daughter of Arthur and Eugene (Cobb) Zimmerman. Mary Jane attended country school and later graduated from Merrill High School in 1941.
She was united in marriage to Allen Weidauer May 26, 1943 in Nevada, Iowa. The couple made their home on the Weidauer farm east of Merrill. The couple farmed and raised livestock for many years.
Allen died Nov. 15, 2000.
Mary Jane continued to live on the farm until September 2007 when she moved to Park Place Estates in Le Mars. As her health declined, Mary Jane later moved to Whispering Creek Retirement Center in Sioux City in 2011 and in May of this year moved to Countryside Nursing Home.
Mary Jane was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Stanton Township until it closed, and for the last many years was a member of the Merrill United Methodist Church. She always enjoyed volunteering at church.
Survivors include her three children: Wayne Weidauer, of Merrill, Kathy Hostetler and her husband, Ron, of Sergeant Bluff, and Susann Herbst and her husband, Darwin, of Merrill; two grandchildren, Gwendy Lahrs and her husband, Ryan, of Merrill and Holly Peterman and her husband, Adam, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two great grandchildren, Briar and Becca Lahrs; a brother, Jerry Zimmerman, of Le Mars; a sister-in-law, Verna Zimmerman, of Lake Jackson, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Eugene (Cobb) Zimmerman; her husband Allen on Nov. 15, 2000; and two brothers, Bob (Pat) Zimmerman and Bill Zimmerman.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. Merrill Muller of the Merrill United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation will be Friday morning at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time.
