Elaine Ann Haupert, 81, of Sioux City, and an Alton native, died peacefully Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.

Elaine was born April 9, 1931, the daughter of Jacob and Hilda (Pottebaum) Haupert, of Alton. Elaine spent her early years in Alton, and then moved to the Glenwood State School in Glenwood, where she remained until 1955.

In 1955, Elaine moved to the Sioux County Home (Hope Haven Residential Care Facility) in Orange City. She remained in Orange City until 2009, when she moved to the Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.

Over the years Elaine enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics, and won numerous ribbons and medals in track and field events as well as basketball and bowling events.

Elaine is survived by four sisters, twin sister Lorraine, of Sioux City; Ardelle (Frank) Colabello, of Omaha, Neb., Judy (Ron) Green, of Aurora, Colo., and Jeanne (David) Chevalier, of Webster, Minn.; three brothers, Dennis (Dianne) Haupert, of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; Dale (Shirley) Haupert, of Atlantic, and Jerry (Ruth), of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Holy Spirit Retirement Home, 1701 West 125th St., Sioux City, Saturday, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be anytime after 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Alton, following the service.

Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of in Remsen.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be sent to Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
