AKRON -- Hinton held up its end Tuesday with an away victory at Akron-Westfield to set up a showdown with Gehlen Catholic on Thursday for sole possession of second place in the final War Eagle Conference volleyball standings.
Hinton (25-4, 8-1) won 25-11, 25-8, 25-18 over A-W (10-10, 5-4).
"We had a bit of a slow start," said Hinton head coach Kate Ortegren. "Sadie (Shuck) got us going in the first set with a serving run.
"Our serving percentage was pretty high and our hitting percentage was almost .500 as a team."
The Blackhawks finished with a serving percentage of 93.2 and a hitting percentage of .457.
Shuck led Hinton in kills with 12, followed by Kasey Reuter with 10 and Tori Bishop with nine.
Reuter and Lauren Hedlund were each 16-for-16 serving. Reuter hit four ace serves and Hedlund hit one. Shuck was 12-for-12 serving with one ace.
Reuter made a team-best 12 digs and Bishop made eight. Reuter had one solo block and assisted on another. Hedlund recorded two assisted blocks.
Emily Miller made three kills for the Lady Westerners. Kayla Tindall added two kills. Haley Coyle, Sarah Schroeder and Cali Westergard made one kill each. Setter Dana Hedlund made seven assists.
Jordan Hansen finished with eight digs and Coyle made three. Kortney Hedlund and Desi Oltmanns each had two digs.
Tindall and Bethany Eastman had one ace each on 6-for-8 and 3-for-5 serving, respectively. Dana Hedlund served 8-for-8.
Hinton will be at home on Thursday against Gehlen. A-W will close the regular season on Thursday at Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn.
