SIOUX CITY -- The Gehlen Catholic JV football team dropped a 39-6 result to Bishop Heelan Catholic on Monday in Sioux City.
Heelan scored twice in the first quarter. The Crusaders recovered a fumble end zone for the first score and failed on the extra point. Heelan later scored a rushing touchdown late in the quarter and Gehlen blocked the point after kick.
Heelan scored the only points of the second quarter on a pass play and kicked a PAT to lead 1-0 at halftime.
The Crusaders were successful on two out of three second half extra points to take a 39-0 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the game.
The JV Jays moved into scoring position at the Heelan 2-yard line in the fourth quarter on a 77-yard pass play from Alex Kellen to Solomon Freking.
Ashton Thompson later caught a deflected pass from Kellen to score from three yards. Gehlen failed on the 2-point attempt.
