Eugene Gale Franck was born Jan. 28, 1937, in Sioux City, the son of Harry Erickson and Vivian Franck. He received his education at Marcus High School. Following school, Gene worked for his father's livestock buying company as a truck driver.
On July 7, 1960, Gene was inducted into the United States Army. He served overseas in Germany. After earning his honorable discharge on June 21, 1962, he returned to Marcus and continued working with his father.
On April 10, 1965 Gene and Janice Dreeszen were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Le Mars. They made their home in Marcus. Gene was trucking for his father when he took a position with the City of Marcus and the water superintendent and the chief of police. He also served on the Marcus Fire Department. He held his position with the city for five years until accepting an offer from Wells' Dairy in Le Mars. Gene worked as a route driver in the Marcus area. That route was later transferred to the Sioux City area.
Gene was currently working in the reclamation department at Wells' and had served the dairy for 38 years.
Gene was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing and yard work. He liked to spoil his grandchildren and follow their activities. He could also be found playing pinochle at the Pizza Ranch on his days off.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Janice Franck of Marcus; a son, Rob and his wife, Tonya, of Merrill; a daughter, Terri McDaniel and her husband, Mike, of Marcus; grandchildren, Reagan, Ben and Riley McDaniel, Jessica and Cody Franck, David Lamp, Gabriel and Aisea Toki; his mother-in-law, Gladys Stuart of Remsen; brothers and sisters-in-law Tom and Marva Ruden of E. Alton, Ill., Darrel and Colleen Stuart of St. Paul, Minn., and Val Stuart of Shoreview, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and her husband, Sally and Dick Kueny; sister, Deanna "Cookie" Lussier; an infant brother Jerry Franck; father-in-law, Don Stuart; and a brother-in-law Denny Stuart.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Le Mars Bible Church. Pastor Fred Gums and the Rev. Tom LoVan will officiate. Burial will follow at Marcus Amherst Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by F.I. Goodburn Post #517 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Friday) at the Earnest - Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family will be present from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Reinge, Andy Kueny, Brad Ruden, Perry Cosby, Gary Lussier and Kim McCormick.
