Mary Lucile Richardson was born March 12, 1919, in Hinton, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Shea) Bornholtz. She attended Central High School in Sioux City, graduating in 1937. After graduation, Mary Lucile worked as a nurses' aid at St Vincent's Hospital in Sioux City.
On Aug. 30, 1939, Mary Lucile and Clifford Richardson were united in marriage at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City. They made their home on a farm near Hinton and were members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Neptune.
Along with other church functions, Mary Lucile served as treasurer of the ladies' guild. She assisted Clifford with farming until their retirement in 1981. Clifford died Aug. 8, 1986. Mary Lucile remained on the farm until moving to the Floyd Valley Apartments in 1991. It was then that she became a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars.
Mary Lucile participated in a birthday club and enjoyed sewing. She and Clifford were avid bowlers and were members of many bowling leagues. They also enjoyed playing cards with the neighbors and watching, and dancing to Lawrence Welk. While living at the apartments, Mary Lucile enjoyed her time at the Senior Center.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and her husband, Mary and Don Pierce, of Sioux City, and a daughter, Dalene Kray, of Le Mars; grandchildren Parnell (Pamela) Pierce, of Green Bay, Wis., Shelley (Michael) Stevenson, of Sioux City, Lance (Karla) Pierce, of Remsen, Rhonda Bolton, of Le Mars, Rick (Brenda) Kray, of Le Mars; great-grandchildren, Ryan Pierce, of Madison, Wis., Maggie Pierce, of Marquette, Mich., Michael Stevenson, Chad (special friend Laura) Stevenson and Nicholas Stevenson, all of Sioux City, Danielle Stevenson, of Vermillion, S.D., Preston, Drew and Mc Cartney Pierce, all of Remsen, Justine (Chris) Beermann, of Le Mars, Jena Reuter, Kylie Kray, Troy (Audra) Presuhn, all of Le Mars; great-great-grandchildren Ethan and Jayden Nelson, of Le Mars, Xabian Gossett and Samantha Wright, both of Vermillion, S.D., Riley and Trey Presuhn, of Le Mars; a nephew, Bill Bornholtz, of Venus, Fla.; and a close friend, Alma Osborne of Le Mars.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford; two brothers Wayne Bornholtz, and a brother and his wife, Dennis and Helen Bornholtz; a grandson, Brian Troy Pierce; and a granddaughter, Theresa (Brauch) Pierce.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Paul Eisele will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery, rural Hinton. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a rosary service at 4 p.m. and a scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Parnell Pierce, Lance Pierce, Rick Kray, Ryan Pierce, Michael Stevenson, Chad Stevenson and Chris Beermann.
