Edith Brock, 85, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Willow Dale Wellness Village in Battle Creek.
Edith Brock was born April 5, 1927, the daughter of Richard and Delpha (Hogue) Beisner in Springfield, Mo. She moved to Battle Creek, in childhood and continued to view Battle Creek as her hometown throughout life.
Edith graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1944.
On Aug. 11, 1946, she married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Brock. Both attended Morningside College, where she studied music.
Edith served as a frequent soloist to the community in times of joy and in sorrow. She taught one year of public school in a country schoolhouse in Battle Creek.
She was active in the Presbyterian Church at Battle Creek and took great joy in helping with the children's sermons. She was also active in the Eastern Star.
Both Edith and Bob enjoyed a large circle of lifelong friends and spent many hours engaged in numerous bridge clubs.
Edith is survived by her two sons and their wives, Bruce and Teri Brock of Le Mars, and Brad and Cindy Brock of Midland, Texas; four grandchildren, Robert Brock II and Libby (Levi) Cargin, of Le Mars, and Connor Brock and Zoe Brock, of Midland, Texas; a twin brother, Harold (Donna) Beisner, of Salix; two brothers-in-law, Basil (Pat) Brock, of Humboldt, and Jim Funderburk, of Des Moines; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Brock in 2000; her parents; and a sister-in-law, Doris Funderburk.
Memorial services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Rev. Kevin Freese officiated. The family received friends at the church Thursday one hour prior to services.
