It's now easy to find ice cream cone public art in Le Mars.
The Le Area Chamber of Commerce was awarded $400 from Le Mars Hotel/Motel Sales Tax receipts, according to a press release.
The grant money was used to produce a map of the fiberglass ice cream cones' locations throughout Le Mars.
"Now that the public art project is completed, with 55 ice cream cones and a cow, it's nice to be able to provide people with the location of the cone, the sponsor name and artist name on a map," said Mary Reynolds, Main Street manager at the Chamber. "We're grateful for the CVB funding."
Maps are available at Le Mars Arts Center, 200 Central Ave. S.E., city of Le Mars, 40 Central Ave. S.E. and the Chamber, 50 Central Ave. S.E.
The Chamber was one of 19 applicants receiving hotel/motel sales tax dollars this year.
Funding recommendations from the Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Board were approved by the Le Mars City Council on February 21, the press release stated.
The CVB Advisory Board received 23 application requests totaling $64,409.07 for the 2012-2013 budget year.
There was $40,000 available to be awarded to qualified groups.
The mission of the CVB Advisory Board is to attempt to support as many qualifying projects with enough money to be useful toward completion of the project goal, the press release also stated.
Qualifying projects meet state code regarding the allocation of revenues generated by the hotel/motel sales tax.
Priority is given to projects that encourage growth of tourism to the City of Le Mars.
