Candidates vie for title of Plymouth County Fair queen and king

Twenty-four Plymouth County young people are competing for the title of Plymouth County Fair Queen and King.

The candidates are sponsored by 4-H clubs and FFA organizations in the county.

All the candidates participated in a get-acquainted day on June 3.

The young people went bowling at Sweet 16 lanes in Le Mars and returned to the Plymouth County Extension office for a catered dinner.

June 3 was also the judging day for the seven king candidates.

Judging for the 17 queen candidates will be July 17, also at the Plymouth County Extension Office.

The queen and king, two princesses, Miss Congeniality, two princes, and Mr. Personalty, will be announced on the first day of the 2012 Plymouth County Fair, Wednesday, July 25, at 7 p.m. on the Pioneer Village Stage.

Queen candidates are:

Annabelle Banks, 17, of Westfield, is the daughter of Chad and Robyn Banks. She is a seven-year member of 4-H and is sponsored by the Lucky Liberty Lopers.

Kristin Foley, 17, of Akron, is the daughter of David and Barb Foley. She is sponsored by the Johnson Juniors and has been a 4-H member for eight years.

Kelsie Huebner, 17, of Hinton, is the daughter of Shelly and Kevin Huebner. She is sponsored by the Hungerford TMTs and has been a 4-H member for eight years.

Brooke Jockisch, 18, of rural Ireton, is the daughter of Bob and Camille Lehman. She has been a 4-H member for seven years and is sponsored by the Remsen Ramblers.

Mariah Miller, 18, of Le Mars, is the daughter of Jeff and Brenda Miller. She has been a 4-H member for nine years and is sponsored by the Hungerford TMT 4-H Club.

Hailey Nicole Moodie, 15, of Kingsley, is the daughter of Nicole and Cliff Moodie. She has been a 4-H member for six years and is sponsored by the Kingsley Krowners 4-H Club.

Skyler Hill-Norby, 17, of Le Mars, is the daughter of Kim Norby and Melissa Hill. She has been a member of 4-H for seven years and is sponsored by the Grant Little Giants 4-H club.

Kellie O'Byrne, 17, of Westfield, is the daughter of Michael and Barbara O'Byrne. She has been an FFA member for three years and is sponsored by the Akron-Westfield FFA Chapter.

Kaitlyn Popken, 18, of Le Mars, is the daughter Mark and Tobi Ellis. She is a four-year 4-H member and is sponsored by the Stanton Lucky Clovers.

Catherine Pratt, 17, of Le Mars, is the daughter of Kevin and Ruth Pratt. She has been a 4-H member for eight years and is sponsored by the Stanton Lucky Clovers.

Shelby Puhl, 17, of Le Mars, is the daughter of Mark and Kelly Puhl. She has been a member of 4-H for eight years, and is sponsored by the American Achievers.

Molly Renken, 18, of Le Mars, is the daughter of Scott and Jill Renken. She is an eight-year member of 4-H and is sponsored by the Grant Little Giants 4-H Club.

Merrissa Schlichte, 17, of Le Mars, is the daughter of Bill and Beth Schlichte. She has been a member of 4-H for eight years and is sponsored by the Grant Clever Clovers 4-H Club.

Sierra Stuerman, 17, of Sioux City, is the daughter of Peter and Mardell Stuerman. She is sponsored by the Lucky Liberty Lopers 4-H Club and has been a 4-H member for eight years.

Mickie Theisen, 17, of Le Mars, is the daughter of Richard and Holly Theisen. She has been a 4-H member for eight years and is sponsored by the Perry Pals 4-H Club.

Emily Vondrak, 16, of Sioux City, is the daughter of Chris and Joni Vondrak. She has been a 4-H member for seven years and is sponsored by the Johnson Juniors.

Whitney Zenk, 17, of rural Akron, is the daughter of Fred and Donna Zenk. She has been a member of 4-H for seven years and is sponsored by the Perry Pals.

King candidates are:

Robin Dreeszen, 18, of Kingsley, is the son of Dave and Karyn Dreeszen. He has been a member of 4-H for seven years, and is sponsored by the Kingsley Krowners 4-H Club.

Grady Farrer, 16, of Hinton, is the son of Steve and Candice Farrer. He has been a member of 4-H for eight years and is sponsored by the Hungerford TMT's 4-H Club.

Dominick Foley, 17, of Le Mars, is the son of Dave and Cindy Foley. He has been a member of 4-H for eight years and FFA four years, and is sponsored by the Akron-Westfield FFA.

Matthew Gerrietts, 17, of Remsen, is the son of Todd and Laurie Gerrietts. He is an eight-year member of 4-H and is sponsored by the Stars and Stripes 4-H Club.

Adam Kroksh, 17, of Akron, is the son of Randy and Debbie Kroksh. He has been a 4-H member for eight years, and a member of FFA for four years. He is sponsored by the Akron-Westfield FFA.

Christopher Reising, 17, of Le Mars, is the son of Steve and Staci Albert. He has been a member of 4-H for eight years and is sponsored by the Grant Clever Clovers.

Scott Schroeder, 17, of Le Mars, is the son of Tony and Shirley Schroeder. He has been a 4-H member for eight years, and is sponsored by the Union Vikings.

King and queen candidates participated in the Le Mars Ice Cream Days parade in June.

They will be introduced to the public at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 20, at the fair kick off and new Livestock Pavilion open house, which runs from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Plymouth County Fairgrounds.
