Janet Sorgdrager, 80, of Sioux City, formerly of Le Mars, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the North Park Senior Living Center in Sioux City.

Janet Josephine Schnepf was born May 24, 1932, in Le Mars, the daughter of Vincent and Matilda (Ruppert) Schnepf. Jan attended St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated with the Class of 1950.

She was united in marriage to Jerry Treinen in 1951. To this union, six children were born: Jay, Jackie, Jim, Joseph, Jane and Jeff. She was later united in marriage to Darold Sorgdrager, together they were the parents of David.

Jan had lived in Iowa, California and Kentucky before returning to Iowa. She particularly loved living in California.

Jan enjoyed visiting with family and friends and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards and games.

Survivors include her children: Jay Treinen, of Dallas, Texas, Jackie Kaufman and her husband, John of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Joseph Treinen, of San Francisco, Calif., Jane Strunk and her husband. Keith. of Charlestown, Ind., Jeff Treinen and his wife, Karla, of Rock Valley, and David Sorgdrager and his wife Annette of Lodi, Calif.; a brother, Don Schnepf and his wife, Pearl, of Oyens; a sister, Carol Yoka, of Lodi, Calif.; 12 grandchildren: Eric Krienert, Katy Whidden, Keith Krienert, Laura Mattingly, Sarah Suits, Randy Strunk, J.J. Strunk, Chris Treinen, Allie Treinen, Joe Tonner, Jake Tonner, and Bailey Webb; 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Matilda (Ruppert) Schnepf; a son Jim in 1973; a grandson Danny, and a sister, June Doud.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Visitations with the family present to greet friends will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church on Saturday. Immediately following the Mass, the family invites everyone to join them for a time of lunch and fellowship at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars.
