Getting ready for new home

Thursday, June 28, 2012

Several parishioners at St. Joseph Catholic Church, including Mary Hartman (pictured), are carefully repainting the gold trim on church's altars before they are moved to the new church building. Parish members carefully dismantled the large altar and numbered the pieces, laying them on the floor of the present church building. The two side altars, as well as the statues, will also be touched up. Member Dick Ahlers indicated the large altar pieces will be moved to the new church building Friday. Once the altars are moved, and the abestos removed from the sanctuary area, the church building at the corner of Plymouth Street and Sixth Avenue Northeast will be demolished, according to Ahlers.
