Hawks hammer HMS 11-1 in five innings

REMSEN -- The Remsen St. Mary's softball team defeated Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 11-1 in five innings Wednesday in Remsen.

After two scoreless innings, RSM (22-5) scored four runs in the third inning, five in the fourth and two in the fifth. HMS scored its only run in the fourth.

RSM combined for eight hits. Junior Miranda Staab was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Junior Paige Harpenau was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore Amanda Nielsen added two hits and three runs scored.

Junior Anyssa Trejo and sophomore Mindy Gerrietts had the other two hits. Gerrietts also walked twice, had an RBI and scored three runs. Trejo tallied two RBIs and a run scored.

Staab pitched all five innings and gave up one earned run on four hits. She struck out five and walked none.

RSM will continue play tomorrow at home against Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn.
