SIOUX CITY -- The Gehlen Catholic softball team lost 7-0 to undefeated Bishop Heelan on Monday in Sioux City.
The Crusaders (18-0) scored two runs in the first inning, two in the third, one in the fourth and two in the sixth.
The Lady Jays (11-7) managed only four hit off the Crusaders' Larrisa Uhl. She pitched a complete game, struck out seven and walked one.
Steph Rohe had two of the Lady Jays' hits. Brittany Krienert and Lisa Gunter had the other two. Gehlen left six runners on base.
"Our lack of hitting hurt us again tonight," Gehlen coach Patty Hatting said. "Heelan hit the ball well, and we just couldn't get our offense going. We just left too many runners stranded on the bases. We had opportunities but didn't put the ball in play when the runners were there."
Amber Timmins pitched a complete game and gave up five earned runs on 10 hits. She struck out two and walked five.
"Amber did a nice job of pitching around their big hitters," Hatting said. "It's not the way we wanted to start the week off, but we just have to move forward and be ready for the conference games that we have this week."
Gehlen will play again Tuesday at Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn.
