Thomas Arden Banks, 92, formerly of Westfield and a lifelong Plymouth County resident, died peacefully Monday evening, May 14, 2012, at Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point, S.D.. His wife and family were present.
Born Feb. 5, 1920, to Joseph F. and Florence O. (nee Ross) Banks, Arden was the youngest of 14 children. He resided on the family farm in Plymouth County his entire life. Arden graduated from Jefferson High School in 1937.
He did baling on the farm and in the neighborhood.
Arden owned his own well driller and excavated wells for many of the farms in the area.
Arden married Marie Kathryn Russell on May 14, 1940.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn of 72 years and three generations of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, son Robert Arden, mother, uncles, and siblings (in order of birth) Vera, Homer, Alvord, Howell, Orel, Ivan, Belmar, Marion (Postelwait), Wurth, Emmet, Merrit, Lloyd, and Joseph.
Visitation will be conducted at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City today (Thursday) from 4-7 p.m. with family present at 6 p.m. Interment will be at Logan Park Cemetery, Sioux City, at noon Friday. The processional will begin at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel at 11:30 a.m.
