Shirley Beeck-Peterson, 69, of Le Mars, died Friday, April 27, 2012, at her home in Le Mars.

Shirley Marie Beeck was born Oct. 14, 1942, in Akron, the daughter of Christian and Marie (Nannen) Beeck. As a young child, Shirley lived on a farm near Kingsley.

She attended Clark Elementary School and graduated from Le Mars Central High School with the Class of 1961.

Following graduation, she worked in Minneapolis briefly and returned to Le Mars to accept an office position with Dubuque Pack in Le Mars. She worked her way up to the position of office manager and continued in that position until the plant closed in the early 1990s. She then accepted the position of office manager of Cloverleaf Cold Storage in Le Mars until her retirement in 2005.

Shirley was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars.

She enjoyed playing cards with her many friends, creating her own greeting cards and reading.

Shirley enjoyed bowling league for many years and playing Dominos with her sister-in-law, Donna Beeck.

She treasured the opportunities of attending school events of her great-nephew and nieces. She will be remembered as a loving aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend.

She is survived by a nephew, Chris Beeck and his wife, Angie, of Hinton and their children Samantha, Nick, and Ally; a niece, Elizabeth Beeck, of Ankeny; a special cousin, Paulette Detloff and family; and several other cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Marie (Nannen) Beeck; and a brother, Ron Beeck and his wife, Donna.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Interment will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Preston Township, rural Akron. Visitation with the family present will be after 4 p.m. today (Monday) at the Carlsen-Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
