William "Bill" Scheitler, 87, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars.
William Henry Scheitler, Jr. was born Aug. 6, 1924, at Oyens, the son of William J. and Martha (Masuen) Scheitler. He attended St. Catherine's Parochial School in Oyens.
William H. Scheitler married Dorothy Pottebaum May 28, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Following their marriage the couple farmed for many years in the Oyens area. Bill also had done custom corn shelling and bought and sold feeder pigs.
He was a long-time member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens prior to moving to Le Mars. He was a current member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars.
Bill loved farming and enjoyed his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Scheitler, of Le Mars; a son Bill B. (Judy) Scheitler, of Le Mars; three daughters: Bonnie (Fritz) Dirksen, of Le Mars, Betty (Gene) Holler, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Doris Scheitler, of Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Martha Scheitler; three brothers: Clarence in infancy, Alvin and Ray Scheitler; and two sisters: Olivia Sparks and Helen Weber.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Church, where there will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday morning at the church for one hour before the Mass.
Pallbearers will be five grandsons: Bill M. Scheitler, Richard Scheitler, Brad Dirksen, Kevin Dirksen, Brian Holler, and a great-grandson, Michael Scheitler.
