Roger L. Dimmick, 76, of Madisonville, Ky., and formerly of Le Mars, died Monday, April 16, 2012, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville, Ky.

Roger Le Roy Dimmick was born May 16, 1935 at Akron, the son of Le Roy and Bernice (Harkness) Dimmick. He received his elementary education near Adaville.

The family moved to a farm south of Hawarden, and Roger graduated from Hawarden High school in 1953. During his school years he was active in FFA and enjoyed helping his parents with farming.

On Aug. 16, 1958, Roger and Mary Helen "Carol" Biever were united in marriage at Alton. The couple made Wakeeney, Kan., their home prior to moving to Le Mars in 1961.

Roger began his trucking career operating heavy machinery and driving for Van Buskirk Construction. For many years to follow, he drove truck for Klein Leasing. Roger then became an owner/operator working closely with B.T. Transportation.

Carol died Jan. 24, 1998.

Roger married Christine (King) Oakley Dec. 18, 1999, at Elk Point, S.D. They moved to Hopkinsville, Ky., and later Madisonville, Ky., to spend their retirement years.

Roger was a member of St. James Catholic Church when he lived in Le Mars.

He enjoyed auto racing and spending time with his grandchildren.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Christine of Madisonville, Ky.; two sons, Jeff and his wife, Laura, of Le Mars, and Jay and his wife, Michelle, of Princeton, Ky.; a daughter, Amy Schneider and her husband, Aaron, of Savanna, Ga.; his mother, Bernice Dimmick, of Hawarden; eight grandchildren Zachary and Megan Dimmick, Christian, Noah and Nathan Schneider, Natasha and Skyler Johnson and Jeremy Stoeber; a great-granddaughter due in May; three sisters, Gerry and Glenn Brandsma of Spencer, Jeanette and Ron Wendt of Sioux City, and Shirley and Rick Larson of Sergeant Bluff; a brother, Arden "Bud" and Linda Dimmick, of Hawarden; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Le Roy; wife, Carol; and a grandson Lane Dimmick.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Matt Hewitt will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. with a scriptural prayer service set for 7 p.m. The Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars is assisting Roger's family with funeral arrangements.
