Steven Franzen, 37, of Le Mars, died suddenly Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Steven Anthony Franzen was born Dec. 6, 1974, in Le Mars, the son of Merlin E. and Diane M. (Hilger) Franzen. Steve grew up in Le Mars and graduated from Gehlen Catholic High School with the Class of 1992. Following graduation from high school, Steve worked for Hy-Vee and later went to work for Wells Dairy at the South Ice Cream plant until his death.

Steve was a sports enthusiast and especially loved watching football.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Trinity Council 1466 in Le Mars.

Survivors include his mother, Diane Franzen, of Le Mars; siblings: Jo Ann (Richard) Olson, of Washta, and their children Daniel (Sarah) Olson, of St. Mary's, Kan., Jennifer (Sam) Pratt, of Merrill, Iand Jessica Olson of Washta; Jane Franzen, of Le Mars; Mark (Ann) Franzen, of Monroeville, Ind., and their children Elizabeth, James, John, Margaret, and Joseph, all of Monroeville, Ind.; Michael Franzen, of Le Mars; Mary Franzen, of Sioux City; Karen (Pat) Crain, of Rodney, and their daughter, Lauren, of Rodney; Tom Franzen, of Sioux City and his children, Kari and Collin; Teresa (Craig) Henriks, of Lawton, and their children, Ali and Samantha; and great-nieces and nephews, Troy and Brooke Pratt, Drew Walters and Joseph Olson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Merlin E. Franzen in 1980; maternal and paternal grandparents; and two brothers, Jim in 1979 and David in 1994

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. Friday at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 4 p.m. parish rosary followed by a 7 p.m. vigil prayer service and Knights of Columbus rosary. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.
