Ronald Peter Roder was born Oct. 25, 1943, on a farm near Remsen, the son of William and Clara (Schwarz) Roder. As a young boy, Ron assisted his parents on the farm. He began milking cows at age 5. Ron graduated from Remsen St. Mary's High School in 1961.
On Nov. 7, 1964, Ron and Marge Grady were united in marriage at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. They moved to Sheldon, where Ron worked at a seed and feed store and was employed with the railroad.
Ron and Marge later moved to Le Mars and Ron began his long career in the construction field. In 1970 he established Roder Construction. Ron was very proud that he taught his sons, Terry and Jeff, everything they know about construction.
Health issues forced him to retire in June of 2006.
Ron was an active member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Throughout the years he and Marge were very involved with Marriage Encounters. He assisted with Sunday School, played guitar for church events, and participated in Covenant Keepers. Ron's faith and his family were the center of his life.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Marge of Le Mars; children, Terry (Patty) Roder, of Le Mars, Michelle (Tim) DeLarm, of Le Mars, Jeff (Mary) Roder, of Merrill, Jackie (Jason) Chapman, of Rochester, Minn., Wanda Gagnon, of Merrill, Carrie Fenner and Brian Utesch, of Le Mars, and Cindy (Chris) Hughes, of Westfield; 17 grandchildren, Amanda and Sara Roder, Joshua (fiancÚ Miranda Brown), Cassandra, Zachary and Clint DeLarm, Jessica and Jordan Roder, Cody and Ashley Gagnon, Austin and Samantha Fenner, Dakota Utesch, Alexis, Alyssa, Addison and Cole Hughes; two step-grandchildren, Alicia and Laura Fenner; sisters, Joanne Streck of Sioux City, and Jeanette (Lyle) Konrady ,of Aurelia; brothers, John (Pat) Roder of Dodgeville, Wis., and Bill (Bertha) Roder of Jackson, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Clara Roder; brothers, Bob Roder and Albert (Marge) Roder; and a brother-in-law Jerry Streck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. The Rev. Matt Hewitt will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. with a rosary service at 3 p.m. and a scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be his children.
