David Rush, 63, of Merrill, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at his home in Merrill.

David Phillip Rush was born July 17, 1948, in Le Mars, the son of Phillip and Gladys (Dixon) Rush. He attended grade school in Merrill and later in Le Mars.

He was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country for two years during the Vietnam era. He was honorably discharged.

After his military service, he returned to Merrill and began working at a packing house in Le Mars. Later, he began his career with Wells' Dairy in Le Mars and later with Dean Foods. He retired after more than 30 years of service.

He was a member of the Oleson-Halweg American Legion Post 125 in Merrill. He served on the Merrill Fire Department for several years.

Through the years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and motorcycling. He enjoyed spending time with his "cronies." He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his two brothers: Fred Rush (Cheryl) of Merrill, and Tim Rush (Anita) of Omaha, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Janice Smith and Phyllis Janes.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. The Rev. Dan Greving from Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill, will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Oleson-Halweg American Legion Post 125 of Merrill. Inurnment will be at a later date in Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation with the family present will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
