Ruth was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Sioux City, the daughter of Sam and Anna (Grove) Matthews. She married John Poulsen on April 1, 1944 in Woodbury County. To this union, eight sons were born. John died Feb. 3, 1988, in Sioux City.
Ruth worked at Zenith until retirement.
She was a member and president of Royal Neighbors of America. Ruth was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a Senior Companion to many.
She enjoyed reading, puzzles books, embroidery, and going to lunch with friends, but most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her eight sons: Richard (Sandy), of South Sioux City, Neb., John (Lurie), of Sturgis, Mich., Sam (Lynn), of Storm Lake, Kenneth (Deb), of Sioux City, Larry, of Sioux City, Terry (Ginger), of Hornick, Scott (Donna), of Oyens, and Jerriett (Sho), of Tampa, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Shirley, and a great-great-granddaughter Addyson Heins.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation will be today (Tuesday) from 4-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Sioux City.
