Flora Dorothy Hilda Stevens was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Holland, Minn., the daughter of Chris and Marie (Reimers) Schmahl. When she was a young child, Flora's family moved to Canton, S.D. She attended and graduated from Canton High School. After high school Flora attended the Omaha Business College.
On Jan. 12, 1938, Flora and Albert Stevens were united in marriage at Council Bluffs. They made their home in Omaha, Neb., for a few years where Flora worked at a Poultry Factory. In 1941, Albert entered into the armed forces to serve his country during World War II. During this time Flora lived in Humansville, Mo., with her mother.
After the war, Flora and Albert moved to Le Mars.
Flora worked at the Pantry Cafe and for Farm Bureau for 25 years, retiring at age 70. Albert died March 22, 1979.
Flora was a member of St John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars where she participated in Circle. She was also a member of Farm Bureau.
Flora was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes Fan, enjoyed flower gardening and playing cards.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Jim, of Spirit Lake, Richard, of Boston, Mass., Larry and his special friend, Sharon, of Ankeny, and Robert, of Dallas, Texas; her daughter, Marlene Asche and her husband, Dennis, of Le Mars; six grandchildren, Sandra Asche, of Key Largo, Fla., Scott Asche, of Bozeman, Mont., Steve Asche and his wife, Lynn, of Bozeman, Mont., Lisa Opheim and her husband, Doug, of Maurice, Mike Stevens and his wife, Kristen, of Ankeny, and Adam Stevens and his wife, Jill, of Ankeny; six great-grandchildren Sean Levitt and his wife, Bonnie, Brandon and Aaron Kessler, Brigham, Gerritt and Gavin Stevens; a brother, Arde Ramesbotom of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Lois Brightenburg of Denver, Colo., and Fern Ramesbotom of College Park, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; brothers Clarence and Dale; sisters, Milda, Clara and Verna.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Gary Landsness will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Monday.
