Doris Anne Armstrong, 75, of Coffeyville, Kan., died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Okla.
She was born July 6, 1936, at Le Mars, the daughter of Alfred Victor DeRaad and Virla Elizabeth (Cook) DeRaad. She grew up and attended school in Seney, graduating from Seney High School. After high school she moved to Coffeyville, Kan., where she attended Coffeyville Community College. On May 22, 1964, she married Harold Armstrong in Coffeyville, where they made their home for the past 50 years. On April 21, 1985, he was preceded in death by her husband Harold Armstrong.
Mrs. Armstrong worked for Wal-Mart as a cashier for the last 13 years.
She attended the First Church of the Nazarene.
She enjoyed flowers, working in her yard, liked to read and do word search puzzles, and also liked to watch John Wayne westerns; but most of all she loved her kids and grandkids.
Survivors include one daughter, Denise Gates and husband, Juggy, of Coffeyville, Kan.; two sons, Darwin Cuthrell of Coffeyville, Kan., and David Armstrong of Coffeyville, Kan.; six grandchildren, John Gates, Michel Gates, David Armstrong Jr., Chad Armstrong, Sandra Cuthrell, Michelle Armstrong; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one grandchild.
Church services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Coffeyville with the Revs. Ford Hall and David Warren officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville to sign the register book. The family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The casket will be closed.
