Marlene Marie Langel was born Dec. 30, 1935, on the family farm near Oyens, the daughter of Theodore Langel Jr. and Caroline (Kunkel) Langel Donlin. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1953.
Marlene was united in marriage to Wayne Mousel May 11, 1954, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. The couple were blessed with five children: Bradley, Barbara, Kerry, Kristina, and Steven.
In 1954, Marlene began working at Le Mars Mutual Insurance Company. She and Wayne moved to California in 1957. In 1959, they moved to Windom, Minn. In 1967, they moved to Remsen where they owned and operated Wayne's Clover Farm. In 1982, they moved to Le Mars.
Marlene had worked as a secretary for Gehlen Catholic Schools for 15 years. After retiring in December 2000, she enjoyed volunteering at the school and St. Joseph Parish.
During retirement, Marlene and Wayne enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.
Marlene will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 57 years, Wayne of Le Mars; 5 children: Bradley (Loreen) Mousel of Sioux Falls, S.D., Barbara (Ron) Rhodes Schnoes of Le Mars, Kerry (Ken) Loutsch of Kingsley, Kristina (Dave) Berkenpas of Le Mars, and Steven (Karen) Mousel of Le Mars; 15 grandchildren: Travis, Chris, and Craig Mousel; Jacquie Novak and Jeremy Rhodes; Neal and Kristin Loutsch; Lauren, Lindsay, Eric, and Adam Berkenpas; Alec, Sydney, Ethan, and Madison Mousel; and four great-grandchildren. Marlene is also survived by a brother, Robert (Laura) Langel of Le Mars; a sister, Arlis Ludtke of Le Mars; two sisters-in-law, Marlene J. Mousel and Donna Jonas Langel, both of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Langel Jr. and Caroline (Kunkel) Langel Donlin; step-father, Lester Donlin; brother and sisters-in-law, Larry and Lynn Langel and Leland and Lena Mousel; brothers-in-law: J. Wallace Luedtke, Irvin Mousel, and Merlin Mousel; a grandson, James Mousel; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Rhodes.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Tuesday) at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a Christian Mothers Rosary at 4 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. scriptural wake service, all at the church. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. Pallbearers will be Travis Mousel, Luke Novak, Jeremy Rhodes, Neal Loutsch, Eric Berkenpas, and Alec Mousel.
