Richard Claire Boever, 75, of Remsen, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at his home in Remsen surrounded by his family.

Dick was born July 3, 1936, at Marcus, the son of John and Geraldine (Dickson) Boever. He attended Holy Name Catholic School in Marcus and graduated in 1955. He then entered the U.S. Army in 1957 and was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., until his honorable discharge in 1959.

On Aug. 3, 1960, he married Carol Schroeder at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. Dick then enrolled at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, in 1960, majoring in accounting. In 1964, he moved with his family to Sioux City, where he worked for Meier Painting and Decorating for 10 years.

In 1974, he began farming south of Remsen with his father-in-law, Ray Schroeder.

Dick was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and was past Grand Knight and then recorder for 27 years. He was also past president of St. Mary's High School Board.

He was a great bowler -- winning a new car in 1962 on the Big Bowl Show. He learned to bowl at an early age of 10, setting pins in Marcus for 5 cents a game.

He loved to play poker with his friends after KC meetings, visiting Las Vegas once in awhile and bowled in Reno in the National Tournament.

He loved farming, his children, grandchildren, and living 51 years with his "wonderful" wife.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of Remsen; five children: Dan and wife, Kelly and their children Jessica and Justus, of Rogersville, Mo.; Doug and wife, Angela, of Palmetto, Fla.; his daughter-in-law, Cindy and children, Blair of Le Mars, Hayley of Remsen, Andrea and Will Dole of Plummer, Idaho; daughter, Diann Parcelli and husband, Mike and their children Anthony, Vincent and Dominic of Des Plaines, Ill.; son David and wife, Denise and their children Lauren and Ryan of Bellevue, Neb.; daughter, Dawn Hicklin and husband, Randy and their children Riley, Joseph, Jillian and Carly of Sioux City, and step-grandchildren Melissa, Josh and Kayla of Sioux City; his brothers and sisters: Jack Boever and wife, Dorothy, of Highland, Calif., Kitty Galles and husband, Jerry, of Ardmore, Okla., Gail Boever and wife, Karen, of Battlefield, Mo., Sherri Willis, of Frisco, Texas, Tim Boever and wife, Kathy, of Blooming Prairie, Minn., Steve Boever and wife, Julie, of Hartley, Julie Mundell and husband, Pete, of Corpus Christi, Texas, Deanna Beck and husband, Jim, of Sutherland, and Mary Ewaldt and husband, Art, of Story City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Mary in infancy, a brother, Norbert (Nubs) and a sister, Margaret Larson.

Funeral service was 10:30 a.m. today (Tuesday) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Deacon Rick Roder concelebrating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Remsen, with graveside military honors conducted by VFW Post 3328 and American Legion Post 220 of Remsen. Visitation was anytime after 2 p.m. Monday, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be directed to Hope Angels of Remsen, June E. Nylan Cancer Center or Hospice of Siouxland.
