Viola Mary Kasner was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Alton, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Mary (Plagge) Baune. Vi attended country school near her home until moving to Remsen, Iowa in 1932. She continued her education at St. Mary's Catholic School, graduating in 1942.
On Sept. 17, 1946, Vi and Clarence "Bud" Kasner were united in marriage in Remsen. The couple made their home on a farm near Kingsley, Iowa where they raised their two children, Jerry and Jean. Vi and Bud moved into Kingsley in 1976.
Vi was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Kingsley where she had participated in Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and was a greeter. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards and morning coffee at the café. Her absolute greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two children and their children (grandchildren and great-grandchildren), son, Jerry Kasner of Le Mars, Scott, Colleen, Koryn, Kaleb and Kristyn Kasner, Kayla Hart, Shanelle, Dakota and Ryleigh Kasner, Wendy, Chris, Michael and Justin Labadie, Braedon and Coleton Haggin, Shawna, Dave and Logan Hannam, Donn, Erin, Kamryn, Jackson and Keegan Kasner; her daughter, Jean Pedersen and her husband, Jerry of Moville, Dennis and Dallas Pedersen, Jim, Jen, Jessie, Jamie and Josie Pedersen, Sherry and Reese Gerard, Kent Pedersen; a brother, Joe Baune of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Duane Junck, of Kingsley, Jan and Ron Walker, of Ankeny, Shryl Alberti, of Williamsville, N.Y., Flo Kasner of Seattle, Wash., Ginger Van Gundy of Elephant Butte, N.M., and Earl and Lois Loutsch of Remsen, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence "Bud" Kasner on July 11, 2007; and a sister-in-law Joyce Baune.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Kingsley. The Rev. Tom Topf will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Johnson - Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at church prior to Mass on Wednesday.
