Woodbury Central shocks No. 15 Hinton

MOVILLE -- Not many teams have been able to keep pace with the Hinton Blackhawks so far this season.

In fact, prior to Saturday, the closest a team has come to the undefeated Blackhawks was 18 points when Hinton defeated Sioux City East 72-54 in the second game of the season Thanksgiving weekend in Le Mars.

The Blackhawks compiled a 7-0 record by outscoring their opponents 526-220.

On Saturday night in Moville, however, the Woodbury Central Wildcats found a way to keep up with the Blackhawks, handing them their first loss of the season by a 67-66 edge.

Five Wildcats scored in double figures, led by a 17-point showing by Brittni Bormann, as Hinton lost its first game of the season.

Lauren Hedlund led a list of five Blackhawks who also scored in double figures with 17 points.

Katie Clausen, Shaeler Lund, Sadie Shuck and Breanna Bollmeyer each had 10 points for Hinton (7-1, 4-0).

Hedlund grabbed eight rebounds while Lund and Shuck each pulled down seven. Hedlund also handed out five assists and grabbed five steals while Shuck blocked two shots.

Hinton 74, Remsen St. Mary's 31

HINTON -- The Blackhawks remained unbeaten in War Eagle Conference play with a 74-31 win over Remsen St. Mary's on Friday.

The Blackhawks built an early 26-8 lead and held a 41-12 advantage at halftime.

Hedlund poured in 21 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists and five steals as the Blackhawks improved to 7-0 on the year.

Lund scored 14 points while Morgan Mehrer collected 11 points, four assists and six steals in the win.

Lyndsie Schorg scored 17 points to pace the Hawks (2-6, 0-3). Schorg and Alexis Bunkers each grabbed five rebounds.

Schorg had two assists while Bunkers, Paige Harpenau and Sabrina Ward each grabbed two steals.

Hinton hosts Sergeant Bluff-Luton in non-conference action on Tuesday while RSM takes on Gehlen Catholic in WEC play.
