Jo-Ann M. Dunlap, 82, of Kingsley, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Jo-Ann Malvin Dunlap was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Oberlin, Ohio, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Juhasz) Vargo. She attended school in Amherst, Ohio, and worked at a dry cleaners following her education.
On Jan. 28, 1950, Jo-Ann and Joseph Dunlap were united in marriage at Lorain, Ohio. The couple lived in several places in the United States including Branson, Mo., and Minot, N.D., before settling in Onawa, Iowa. They lived in Onawa for more than 30 years before moving to Kingsley in 2004.
Jo-Ann liked singing and playing cards. Her family enjoyed her good cooking. She and Joe participated in square dancing while living in Branson.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Joe Dunlap, of Kingsley; her children Rose "Gypsy" Ball ,of Stillwater, Okla., Lucille Marie Collins, of Onawa, Linda Louise (John) Althoff, of Onawa, Raymond Oliver (Teresa) Dunlap, of Monticello, Wis., Jean Ann (Forrest) Hall, of Stillwater, Okla., Carol Jean (Mike) Schweitzer, of Winthrop, Hope Janet Hundley, of Camanche, and Joseph (Karen) Dunlap Jr., of Kingsley; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three sisters Mary Kiss, of Columbus, Ohio, Vilma Putnocky, of Marion, N.C., and Shirley (Gerald) Mowrey, of Lorain, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Priscilla Harman and Olga Barnhardt; and brothers Frank, Joseph and Steve Vargo.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the Johnson - Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Visitation began at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the family present to greet friends at 1 p.m.
