This year, Le Mars Community took three dances to state rather than the two routines the team usually brings.
Le Mars competed in Jazz, Pom and Kick routines.
"We have such a strong and talented group, I knew they could handle three," coach Amy Davis said.
Both the Jazz and Pom routines received Division I ratings while the Kick routine placed second.
"This is the highest Le Mars has gotten while I have been coach," Davis said. "I am so very proud of these girls. They have worked so hard on-and-off-season and it really showed at state."
State solo contest was held on November 5 at Ames High School. Five girls from Le Mars competed at the solo event.
Paige Tracey, Angel Lamourex and Shelby McMurray received Division I ratings while Lexie Klingbeil and Caitlin Manley received Division II ratings for their solos. Seventy-seven dancers competed in Le Mars' division and two Le Mars dancers placed in the top 10. Tracey placed sixth and McMurray was 10th.
Four Le Mars dancers were also chosen for the All-Iowa honor dance team, which was selected in September. Out of 500 dancers who tried out, 250 were chosen to perform during halftime of the Class 3A girls state basketball tournament which will be held in Des Moines in March. Jess Langel, Leah Baas, Madelyn Mullally and Whitney Zenk were chosen to represent Le Mars in March.
Davis' 2011-12 dance team consists of 16 dancers, three alternates and two managers. The dance team performs at every home basketball game. The dance team will host its annual exhibition at the end of the season in March.
The Le Mars dance team will be performing tonight (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) as the basketball teams host Emmetsburg and Estherville-Lincoln Central. The dance team will perform the state kick routine on Saturday.
On Monday, Dec. 12, the dance team will have a tip night fundraiser at the Le Mars Pizza Ranch from 5 to 8 p.m. All are invited to come out and support the dance team through this effort.
