Edna P. Van Gorkom, 92, of Le Mars, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at The Abbey of Le Mars.
Edna Pauline Van Gorkom was born Jan. 3, 1919, in Plymouth County, the daughter Albert and Johanna (Albers) Baumann. She attended country school near her farm home by Craig.
On Aug. 26, 1943, Edna and Merinas Van Gorkom were united in marriage. The couple made their home on a farm in Plymouth County where they raised their family. Merinas died Dec. 17, 1956.
Edna remained on the farm until 1961 when she moved to Le Mars to care for her ailing mother. Edna was an avid reader.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ronald Van Gorkom of Le Mars, Karen Van Gorkom of Baltimore, Md., Jerry Van Gorkom of Sioux City, and Shirley Augsburger and her husband, Steve of Colton, Calif.; grandchildren, Donald Laferriere, Thad Laferriere, Kristopher Augsburger and Shawn Augsburger; and a great-granddaughter, Jacynda Laferriere.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Merinas; and a son, Merle Van Gorkom, Jan. 31, 2001.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Burial will follow at Christ Lutheran (Grant Township) Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home with the family present from 5-8 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
