Lowayne A. Bennett, 70, of Sioux City, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Lowayne Arthur Bennett was born May 27, 1941, in Sioux City, the son of Louis and Violet (Prodehl) Bennett. He attended Liberty Consolidated School and graduated from Hinton High School in 1959.

Following high school, Lowayne enlisted with the Iowa National Guard where his unit was activated and deployed to Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1970.

He worked various jobs before beginning a 27 1/2 year career with Nutra Flo in Sioux City. He retired from Nutra Flo in 2003.

Lowayne was united in marriage to Bridget Ross in December 1980.

Lowayne enjoyed yard work and playing cards.

Survivors include three brothers and five sisters: William Bennett, of Sioux City, Armin Bennett, of Hinton, Marlin Bennett, of Sioux City, Viola Blackmore and her husband, Orville, of Merrill, Alberta Pratt, of South Sioux City, Neb., Evelyn Morehead and her husband, Terry, of Akron, Marlene Ernst and her husband, Jim, of Le Mars, and Carolyn Bennett, of Le Mars; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lowayne was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Violet (Prodehl) Bennett; a nephew, Michael Blackmore; a niece, Tammy Calkins; and a sister-in-law, Marcia Bennett.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, with Minister Joel Nye of St. John Lutheran Church, of Merrill, officiating. Visitations with the family present will be from 6-8 p.m. today (Monday), at the funeral home and will continue Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until service time. Interment with military honors provided by the Mumford-Moon V.F.W. Post #1750 of Correctionville, will be at the Rock Branch, Fairfield Cemetery, rural Anthon.

Pallbearers will be Ken Ernst, Kevin Ernst, Tricia Ernst, Deanna Brumakow, Natasha Bennett, Amanda Bennett, and Brian Bennett.
