Elsa Puetz, 97, of Le Mars, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars, following a lengthy illness.

The former Elsa Johanna Adler was born June 23, 1914, on a farm in Sioux County near Hawarden, the daughter of Fred and Pauline (Schmidt) Adler. She attended rural school in Sioux County until her parents moved to a farm near Le Mars, where she attended rural school in Stanton Township.

Elsa married Vincent Puetz Feb. 23, 1938, at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars.

Following their marriage the couple farmed just east of Le Mars their entire married lives. Her husband Vincent died in July 1977.

Elsa was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, the Christian Mothers Society, and the Catholic Daughters of America.

Elsa was a very talented cake decorator and over the years had made many special occasion and wedding cakes for people. She was very creative and enjoyed doing various crafting projects and playing cards.

Survivors include five children: Judy Puetz of Le Mars, Carl Puetz and his special friend, Diane Pike of rural Le Mars, Carol Janes of Le Mars, Paula Hoffman and her husband, Keith of Boulder City, Nev., and Gayle Puetz of Le Mars; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Marge Adler of Le Mars, and Mary Adler of Fremont, Neb.; a brother-in-law, Bobb Beehler of Bozeman, Mont.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Fred and Pauline Adler; her husband, Vincent; three brothers: Fred Adler and his wife, Lucille, Rudy Adler, and Richard Adler; and a sister, Helen Beehler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations will be anytime after 3 p.m. Thursday at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a combined rosary by the Christian Mothers and the Catholic Daughters at 4 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday morning at the church for one hour before the Mass.

Pallbearers will be Ross Janes, Matt Hoffman, Bob Puetz, Mike Langel, David Adler and Kristofer Janes.
