Former Hawkeye running back Wegher arrested

Friday, October 21, 2011

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) -- Former Iowa running back Brandon Wegher has been arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and eluding police.

The Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil (http://bit.ly/opgoVD) reports that Wegher was arrested Tuesday night at an Iowa Western Community College apartment complex.

Police Sgt. Chad Geer tells the newspaper that a warrant was taken out for Wegher's arrest after the 20-year-old fled when officers arrived at a party in Council Bluffs on Oct. 13.

Authorities say Wegher posted a $300 bond and was released.

Wegher left Iowa after the 2009 football season for personal reasons. He transferred to Oklahoma in 2010, but left before spring practices began.

He then transferred to Iowa Western, but the school ruled him academically ineligible for this season.

A public phone listing for Wegher could not be found.
