The former Madeline Margaret Reuter was born Dec. 23, 1915, on a farm just south of Le Mars, the daughter of Anton and Anna (Nemmers) Reuter. She grew up in the Le Mars area and graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic High School.
Madeline married William J. Neubrand on Sept. 30, 1937, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars.
Following their marriage the couple made their home in Le Mars, and owned and operated Neubrand Construction for many years until her husband's death in 1979.
Madeline was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars the Church Guild, Christian Mothers Society, and Catholic Daughters of America.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, canning, and baking. Her specialty was apple pie.
She also enjoyed playing cards, bowling and attending her grandchildren's activities and sporting events.
Survivors include four children: William D. "Bill" (Sonny) Neubrand of Le Mars, Ann Muir and her husband, Darrell of Palm Coast, Fla., Don Neubrand and his wife, Mary Lee of Le Mars, and Dennis Neubrand of Le Mars; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Neubrand of Auburndale, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, William A. "Bill" Reuter and his wife, Arlene of Le Mars; two sisters-in-law, Esther Reuter of Sauk Centre, Minn., and Mary Agnes Neubrand of Wichita, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William J. Neubrand in 1979; a son, Chuck Neubrand; five brothers and sisters-in-law: Ralph Reuter and his wife, Dorothy, Roger "Hap" Reuter and his wives, Dorothy and Ione, Tony "Ants" Reuter and his wives, Dorothy and Shirley, Melvin "Tim" Reuter, and Joseph "Fritz" Reuter and his wife, Helen; mother and father-in-law, Robert and Clara Neubrand; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Alex and Mary Stoffel, Gehart and Olive Groetken, Clara and Cletus Nemmers, Ethel Neubrand, Sr. Marie Therese, S.C.C., Bob and Dorothy Owens, Bob Neubrand, and Stanley Neubrand.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations will be anytime after 3 p.m. Thursday at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where their will be a combined rosary by the Christian Mothers Society and the Catholic Daughters of America at 4 p.m. and a vigil scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday morning at the church for one hour prior to the Mass.
Pallbearers will be seven grandsons: Mark Muir, Jeff Neubrand, Chad Neubrand, Tim Neubrand, Robb Neubrand, Drew Neubrand and Brian Neubrand. Honorary pallbearers will be four granddaughters: Ellen Moore, Donna Pinckney, Shelli Soma and Shanon Neubrand.
