Dirk T. "Dick" Willms, 95, of Le Mars, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at Park Place Estates in Le Mars.
Dirk Theodore Willms was born April 14, 1916, in Le Mars, one of four children born to John and Margaret (Pageler) Willms. He attended elementary and high school in Le Mars. When Dick was a teenager, his family moved to a farm north of Le Mars.
On April 10, 1946 Dick and Delphine Fiedler were united in marriage at Luverne, Minn. They made their home on the Willms family farm. Dick and Dele farmed side by side and raised their children on that farm.
Dele died Jan. 20, 2010. Dick moved to Park Place Estates Dec. 12, 2009, but continued to spend weekends on the farm.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars.
Dick's life revolved around his family and farming. He was a handyman and could often be found tinkering and repairing all sorts of gadgets.
Dick will be lovingly remembered by a daughter, Deanna David and her husband, Mel of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Devona "Dee" Willms of Omaha, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dele; an infant son, Douglas; an infant brother; and sisters, Lillian Zink, Verna (Walt) Schilling and Edna (Ray) Jones.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Gary Landsness will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-8 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church on Monday prior to the funeral.
