VOLLEYBALL: Lady 'Dogs post 3-3 record at Western Christian tourney

HULL -- The Le Mars Community volleyball team posted a 3-3 record at the Western Christian tournament on Saturday in Hull.

The Lady 'Dogs bounced back from a tournament-opening loss to Unity Christian to defeat Bondurant-Farrar and Creston in pool play.

In the silver pool, Le Mars sandwiched a 2-1 win over Unity in between losses to Class 2A No. 1 Western Christian and Class 4A Sioux City East.

Erin Kommes powered the Lady Bulldogs offensively on the day with 32 kills. Carolyn Ahlers hammered 21 kills while Britney Thompson added 17 and Morgan Ohm had 16 kills on the day.

Emily Pick lofted 44 assists and Emily Ellefson chimed in with 29.

Defensively, Kommes led the Lady 'Dogs with 31 digs through the tournament.

Jacelle Neill dug out 22 attacks and Ahlers added 21 digs. Ohm and Pick had 17 digs each.

At the net, Madison Heidebrink blocked five attacks. Ahlers had four blocks and Thompson blocked three attacks.

Pick scored seven aces to lead the Lady Bulldogs at the service line. She was 34-for-41 on the day.

Ohm had five aces in her 35-for-40 performance while Ellefson was 29-for-31 with three ace serves.

Neill went 24-for-26 at the line and had two aces while Kommes was 27-for-28 with one ace and Ahlers was 40-for-42.

Le Mars started the day with a 2-1 loss to Unity Christian. After posting a 21-14 win in game one, Le Mars dropped game two 21-15 and game three 15-9.

The Lady Bulldogs bounced back with a 2-0 win over Bondurant-Farrar. Le Mars won each set by a 21-16 margin.

Le Mars rounded out pool play with a 2-0 win over Creston. The Lady 'Dogs won game one 21-16 and game two 21-11.

In the silver pool, Le Mars dropped a 2-0 decision to Western Christian. The Wolfpack posted a 21-8 win in game one and then won game two 21-10.

Le Mars got Unity Christian the second time around. The Lady 'Dogs dropped a close 24-22 decision in game one before posting wins of 21-18 and 15-7 in the final two sets.

Le Mars ended the day with a 2-0 loss to Sioux City East. The Black Raiders won each set by a 21-11 decision.

Le Mars (18-10) travels to Storm Lake for its final Lakes Conference game of the season on Tuesday.
