Le Mars Agri-Center offers 24/7 online grain trading

Thursday, September 8, 2011

* enhanced online grain trading system for simplifying grain sales with added flexibility is now available to Le Mars Agri-Center customers.

Brian Harpenau, Agri-Center spokesman, said the new DPP SM (Dynamic Pricing PlatformSM) grain desk system is intended to serve customers 'round the clock allowing crop sales whenever they want rather than only the business day.

"The grain desk allows us to provide commodity bids online for our customers to see at any hour of the day," Harpenau said. "This means producers may post their offers electronically with the offers monitored by DPP with every tick of the market. When an offer matches the bid, the transaction completes automatically."

The system allows, as an example, the posting of an offer to deliver cash corn on the DPP grain desk with the producer choosing the bushel quantity, delivery period and desired cash price for that commodity, he said.

The grain desk also gives customers opportunity for placement of a hedge order and confirmation of the fill, he added.

Execution of the cash purchase is then given with notification of both parties involved in less than one second.

Harpenau said an application is also available for smartphones.

A "come-and-go" start-up session for the new service is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 20 at the Le Mars Agri-Center, 205 First Ave., Le Mars.
