Glenn "Buzz" Jauer, 96, of Sioux City, formerly of Hinton, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at the Holy Spirit Assisted Living Center in Sioux City.

Glenn Jauer was born April 28, 1915, on the family farm in Hungerford Township, rural Hinton, the son of Albert and Julia (Westbury) Jauer. Glenn was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith.

As a young child, Glenn received the nickname "Buzz" from a sibling and was known as "Buzz" from then on.

He attended country school at Hungerford #6 and later graduated from Hinton High School in 1933.

As a young boy, Buzz was a member of 4-H where he enjoyed showing cattle.

Following high school Buzz continued farming with his father.

Buzz was united in marriage to Monica "Dolly" Margaret Sitzmann Feb. 16, 1944, at St. Joseph Catholic Church-Neptune. Buzz and Dolly farmed near Hinton raising crops and livestock for many years. In 1975, they built a new home on the family farm and continued to live on the farm until 2006.

In 2006, Buzz and Dolly moved to Holy Spirit Assisted Living in Sioux City. Dolly died Oct. 11, 2010.

Buzz and Dolly enjoyed neighborhood card clubs for many years.

Buzz enjoyed playing golf; a sport he did not discover until the 1960s. He also enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada.

Buzz loved all aspects of farming and raising livestock. He built one of the first modern hog confinements in Plymouth County. He was awarded the designation of Master Pork Producer.

During his retirement years, Buzz continued to help on the farm and enjoyed helping with the annual Jauer cattle sale.

Survivors include his four children: Roger Jauer and his wife, Karen of Hinton, Richard Jauer of Hinton, Joyce Thill and her husband, Adrian of Minneapolis, Minn., and Jim Jauer and his wife, Kim of Hinton; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Israel and her husband, John of Loveland, Colo.; three in-laws: Alvina Nuebel and Mildred Hoss of Le Mars, and Roy Sitzmann Sr. and his wife, Martha of Kingsley; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Julia (Westbury) Jauer; his wife, Dolly on Oct. 11, 2010; and three sisters, Mildred Lembcke, Lois Schultz, and Betty Jauer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church- Ellendale, rural Merrill, with the Rev. Daniel Greving officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery-Neptune. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today (Monday) at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars followed by a 7 p.m. scriptural wake service. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Doug Jauer, Brant Jauer, Kurt Jauer, Jeremiah Jauer, Christopher Thill, and Matt Harper. Honorary pallbearers will be Deanna Jauer, Stephanie Morran, Alicia Harper, Jeanna Thill, Crystal Jauer, and Candace Jauer.
