Walter "Walt" Fuller, 71, of Merrill, died Friday, July 22, 2011 at his home.
Walter Ivan Fuller was born Jan. 17, 1940, in Rudd, the son of Paul and Ocea (Piper) Fuller. As a young boy, the family moved to Nora Springs, Iowa where Walt attended and graduated from high school. He continued his education at Westmar College in Le Mars earning a degree in industrial arts.
He worked as police officer for the City of Merrill and for a farmer west of Le Mars for several years.
Walt was united in marriage to Betty Husman on Sept. 8, 1961, at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. Walt and Betty were the parents of two children, Robert and Rebecca.
Walt was always community minded, having been involved with establishing the Merrill Ambulance, active with the Merrill Boy Scouts, Merrill Fire Department, and the Plymouth County Disaster Services.
Survivors include his two children, Robert Fuller and his wife, Deb of Merrill and Rebecca Warren of Le Mars; his former wife, Betty Fuller of Le Mars; his twin brother, Charles Fuller and his wife, Margaret of Wichita, Kan.; a brother-in-law, Richard Husman and his wife, Laura of Merrill; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ocea (Piper) Fuller; two brothers, Edward and Jerold Fuller; and a sister, Naomi Fischer.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, with the Rev. Sarah Nye of St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill, officiating.
