Alvin Edwin Heeren was born March 28, 1925, in Akron, the son of Alfred and Alma (Jaster) Heeren. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Le Mars.
He attended country school in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa and later high school at Central High School in Le Mars, graduating in 1943.
Alvin served in the Iowa National Guard from 1948 to 1952.
He was united in marriage to Gladys Bock on Sept. 3, 1960, in Le Mars.
Early on, Alvin farmed near Brunsville before beginning his 27-year career with Sioux Tools in Le Mars.
After retiring, Alvin worked part time at Bomgaars and Pamida in Le Mars.
In February of this year, he became a resident of Plymouth Manor.
Alvin was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, rural Le Mars, having served a few years on the Cemetery Board.
Through the years, Alvin enjoyed gardening and camping with the Woodbury Woodys Camping Club.
He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of more than 50 years, Gladys of Le Mars; his brother, Norman Heeren (Lois) of Akron; his sister, Ida Schuette of Le Mars; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister in infancy, Mabel; and his brother-in-law, Dale Schuette.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township, rural Le Mars. The Rev. Ben Worley will officiate. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Monday), with the family present after 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
