Baseball: Jays rally to defeat Blackhawks 3-2

LE MARS -- Mitchel Christoffel's second career varsity home run sparked a three-run, sixth-inning rally as the Gehlen Catholic baseball team came from behind to defeat visting Hinton 3-2 on Friday at the Riverview Complex in Le Mars.

The Jays entered the bottom of the frame trailing 2-0. Christoffel's home run cut the deficit in half and Angel Chagolla and Derek Bretey later scored in the inning to give the Jays their first lead of the night.

Devin Groenhagen pitched the first five innings for Gehlen, allowing two earned runs on seven hits. He walked one and fanned three.

Michael Whitehead earned the win as he pitched two innings of hitless relief.

Mitchell Flack, Blake Wiltgen, Whitehead, Bretey and Chagolla all singled for hte Jays, while freshman Austin Herbst had a game-tying RBI single in the sixth.

Dalton Becker was 2-for-4 with a run scored and stole a pair of bases for the Blackhawks.

Nolan Field had two hits, scored a run and drove in another while swiping two pases for Hinton.

Gehlen (4-6, 3-4) plays at Remsen-Union on Monday.
