Dorothy Heien, 87, of Hartley, died Monday, May 30, 2011, at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn.

Dorothy LaVonne Hein, the daughter of John and Lillian (Kallsen) Tapper, was born Jan. 24, 1924, on a farm near Akron. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Akron.

Dorothy later graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1942. Following her schooling, she worked at the Blue Printing Office at Boeing Aircraft during World War II. She was later employed by N.W. Telephone Company in Seattle, Wash., for two years. After returning to Iowa, she worked as a dental assistant in Sioux City.

Dorothy married Orlin Wayne Hein Feb. 3, 1951, in Akron. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Hartley area until retiring in 1981.

Dorothy was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley. She was also a past member of the Ladies Aid and Friendly Circle.

Since retiring, she enjoyed walking, aquasizing, sewing and crafts. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters: Michelle and Terry Triebwasser of Dell Rapids, S.D., and Melissa and Kelvin Edmundson of Garretson, S.D.; five granddaughters: Amanda, Jessica and Kayla Triebwasser and Cheyenne and Haley Edmundson; one brother, Orville Tapper of Marcus; other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Bruce Hein in 1980; her husband, Orlin in 2010; a brother, Lester Tapper in 1998, a brother, Raymond Tapper in 2005 and a nephew, John Tapper in 2003.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 6, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley. The Rev. Dave Ericksen will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley.

The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m.., Sunday, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley.

Pallbearers will be Craig Hein, Joel Hein, Kyle Tapper, Gaylen Tapper, Kevin Tapper and Duane Kallsen.

The Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
